God’s Way To Heaven

WHY DID JESUS CHRIST HAVE TO SUFFER AND DIE ON THE CROSS?

The Bible gives us clear reasons:

1. Each one of us has a sin problem. Romans 3:22-23 says, “There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” We need only look ourselves and know that this verse is true.

2. The consequence of sin is death. Romans 6:23 says, “For the wages of sin is death” The death referred here is spiritual death – a death much more painful than physical death because it translates to eternal separation from God and a life in Hell.

3. We will never be able to pay for our sins nor earn eternal life by doing good works or keeping the Ten Commandments (The Law). Galatians 2:16 says, “And yet we know very well that we cannot become right with God by obeying our laws, … For no one will ever be saved by obeying them.” Doing good works is our response but it does not remove our sins.

4. God is holy and perfect; we cannot stand before God with our sinfulness. He requires a lamb to be sacrificed for our sins to be forgiven. Because Jesus never sinned and is perfect, only with Him can we be reconciled to God through His sacrifice on the cross. This is why Jesus is called “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29). 1 Peter 1:18-19 also tells us, “For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your forefathers, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.

5. Jesus Christ paid for our sins with His blood by dying on the cross in our place; He saved us from the consequences of sin – God’s judgment and eternal death in Hell. Isaiah 53:5 says, “He was wounded for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon Him, and by His wounds we are healed.” Hebrews 9:22 says, “…without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.” Ephesians 1:7 also says, “In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins…

6. Jesus promised us eternal life in Heaven. John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.

7. We need Jesus as our Savior and Lord. One of the criminals, who were crucified alongside Jesus, humbly admitted his sinfulness and demonstrated his faith in Jesus when he asked for mercy. Jesus, in the midst of His own suffering, replied, “Today, you shall be with Me in paradise.” (Luke 23:43). This same promise is given to us if we humbly admit our sinfulness and repent from it. We need to ask Jesus to be our Lord and Savior. Acts 20:21 says, “…turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus.

8. In John 14:6, Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” There is NO ONE ELSE and there is NO OTHER WAY to enter Heaven, ONLY through Jesus.

Prove the sincerity of your faith by turning away from a life of sin and accepting Jesus in your life.

Acts 26: 20 says, “I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds.” A person who genuinely asks God for forgiveness will seek to change his ways. God knows we are not perfect but the sincerity of our faith will move us to live lives that show our gratitude to God for His free gift of heaven.

You can pray this simple prayer to express your faith in Jesus Christ and receive Him into your heart as your Lord and Savior. You only have to pray this prayer once but with sincerity because when He enters your life, He will never leave you. God says in Joshua 1:5, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.

PRAYER: Lord Jesus, I need You. I confess that I am a sinner. I believe that You died on the cross to pay for all my sins. With Your help, I will turn away from all my sins. Please come into my life and be my Lord and Savior. I accept Your free gift of eternal life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be. Thank You for coming into my life and giving me eternal life. Amen.
