29 Cheers Before 29 Years

On July 28, 2014, in Personal, Uncategorized, by july

I’ve listed twenty nine things I’ve learned (or God taught me) in the year.  Looking back, it was an awesome year.

29 – Psalm 37:4 – Take delight in the LORD and He will give you the desires of your heart.  God gives those who delight in Him new desires.  It is not to be taken as though delighting in the LORD to bribe Him into giving you your wants.  Rather, delighting in the LORD means that God is giving you new desires—His.

28 – Exodus 20:12 – Honor your father and your mother.  It’s an amazing journey.  They’re not perfect.  But honor them anyway.

27 – Find ways – Do not wait for other people to provide what you want.  Ask them.  Look for them.  Find ways to connect to them.

26 – Proverbs 17:22 – A joyful heart is a good medicine.  Smile, laugh.  It makes the world a better place.  So keep smiling.

25 – 1 Timothy 6:9 – Those who want to get rich plunge people into ruin and destruction.  I have seen how bad people descend to in their quest for money.  Greed turns people into moral monsters, and many fall into its trap.

24 – Colossians 3:23 – Work hard.  Work diligently… as though working for the LORD.  I love my work.  I love my company.  I will take care of it… because it is a blessing to me and I am a blessing to it.  In doing this, I honor God.

23 – John 14:15 – He who loves Jesus keeps His commandments.  A very easy gauge to know whether one loves Jesus only with his mouth… or he loves Jesus with his heart.

22 – Matthew 28:19 – To make disciples of all nations.  It’s not actually a new thing, but this verse gives me a very powerful motivation to do what Jesus wants his disciples to do.  Imagine a world where everyone is a Christian.  It would be heaven.

21 – 1 Peter 3:15 – Giving a defense of my faith with gentleness and respect.  I am learning still. I have over the years learned to tone down and ask the right questions rather than rubbing things into the person I’m talking to.

20 – Romans 5:8 – While we were sinners Christ died for us.  Forgiveness comes before repentance.  We do not wait for people to repent before forgiving.  If one wants to follow Christ, it should be the other way around.

19 – Sahih Bukhari –  The more I read this, the more I fall in love with Jesus. I’ll leave it at that, out of my love for my Muslim friends.

18 – Qur’an – I’ve read this a year ago.  In the same way as Sahih Bukhari, reading this made me love the Bible more.  Again, I’ll leave it at that.

17 – RZIM – I’m thoroughly amazed at the impact RZIM is doing in equipping both young and old with reasons on why they believe what they believe.

16 – The Law of Biogenesis – I was so excited when I understood this concept.  Of all the evidence for God’s existence, this one appears to be among the easiest to show as Biogenesis is a repeatable experiment.  I was so excited that I developed an argument for God using it.

15 – John 9:3 – some handicaps in a person’s life happens so that God may be glorified.  I am reminded to look at the big picture—this life and eternity.  This life is a blip in the radar screen, a purifying ground for the eternity to come.

14 – 1 Corinthians 6:19 – The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.  Take good care of it.  exercise.  Eat the right food.  Sleep well.

13 – People will disappoint you.  People will do bad things against you.  Forgive.  Move forward.  Know that God can use these things for His glory.

12 – 1 Thessalonians 5:18 – In everything give thanks.  I thank God for where he has put me.  My job, my place of residence… everything.  I’m not happy with everything he has done for me, because some are really painful.  But I am happy at the same time.  God knows how to mold me better than I do, so even if I am unhappy sometimes, I am still very very happy.  Thank You for disciplining and molding me.

11 – Matthew 5:43 – Love your enemies.  I’ll leave it at that.

10 – Joshua 1:8 – Doing Bible Study every week is a must.  I don’t care how other DGroups are doing it, but in my group, we do it every week.  Period.  The brothers have seen the effects when people are immersed with the word of God both in knowledge and practice.

9 – Hebrews 10:25 – Fellowship is important.  Doing it every week is important.  There is no excuse.  No reason not to do fellowship.

8 – Matthew 17:21 – Fasting and praying is very important.  In the ancient times, people fast with food.  Fasting on facebook or anything else is no fasting at all.  The moment I fast with food, I become spiritually filled.  It’s hard to explain without the other person experiencing it.

7 – Romans 12:1 – Offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God.  I am reminded that worship is a lifestyle.  every waking and sleeping moment of a person’s life is how he worships God.

6 – Proverbs 3:5 – trust in the LORD with all your heart.  The more I learn about this, the more I feel happy with life.  God is wise.  He knows what’s best for me.

5 – John 21:17 – Feed my sheep.  The LORD has given the command to Peter—if he loves Jesus, he will feed God’s sheep. It is a sacrifice… a painful experience… but is also extremely rewarding.  I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.

4 – Galatians 5:23 – self control is a virtue.  If I were a year or two younger and I’ve seen the horrors of Iraq and Syria, I would’ve started quoting the Qur’an and the Hadiths in my wall.  I’m still learning.  God help me.

3 – Luke 14:33 - The cost of following Christ means that you have to leave everything behind.  It took a lot of time for me to understand this.  I’m still learning… yet now I know more.  It’s all worth it.

2 – Luke 17:10 – This is not about me.  Everything I do… it’s all about God. I follow God, not because I am good.  I follow God because HE is good.

1 – Romans 8:28 – All things work together for the good of those who love God.  All I need to know is that I love God.  As long as I do, uncertainties are nothing.
